What are you chewing on today? No I am not speaking of Cheeze-Its or Big Red. What is your mind chewing on today? A piece of gum gets chewed on over and over for a long period of time.
The Bible encourages us to chew on truth over and over for a long period of time. It calls us to meditate on truth. That is to chew on it, to mull it over, to work it through our minds over an extended period of time.
Consider the following calls:
Joshua 1:8
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it.
Psalm 1:2
His delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.
Psalm 119:97-99
Oh how I love your law!
It is my meditation all the day.
98 Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies,
for it is ever with me.
99 I have more understanding than all my teachers,
for your testimonies are my meditation.
Again and again God calls us to meditate on His Word day and night. In the morning and in the evening. What does this look like? Taking a verse, a phrase, a short passage and think about it. What does it mean? If it is true, then what? Why is this important? As you do so God speaks. It is His Word after all and He teaches you about who He is, how He has designed the world and how you are to live in it.
Consider the results associated with the one who makes this their practice:
1. It makes me wiser than my enemies (Ps. 119:98)
2. I have more understanding than my teachers. (Ps. 119:99)
3. You will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success. (Josh 1:8)
4. It makes one like a tree that bears it fruit in its season. (Psalm 1:3)
5. It’s leaf does not wither. (Psalm 1:3)
6. In whatever he does he prospers. (Psalm 1:3)
So what are you chewing on? Start with these verse and let God bring forth His sweet fruit!
